The Lagos State Government generated approximately N80 billion in 2025 through building approval fees. Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, explained that costs are determined by development size and location, with payments processed strictly through banks. Olumide noted that building approvals may be delayed if an applicant’s tax filings appear inconsistent with the scale of their project. Furthermore, he reiterated that the state will conduct immediate demolitions for structures built on gas or power lines, buildings that deviate significantly from approved plans, or properties deemed distressed and unsuitable for occupancy.
